ABOUT

ARIA UNGERER
Aria Ungerer is a Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist and Somatic Movement Educator.
Her commitment to yoga and meditation began while studying meditation in Nepal between 1995 and 1998. She later moved to London and studied Ashtanga Vinyasa under Hamish Hendry at the Homeopathic Hospital. Since then, Aria has studied many different styles of yoga including Ashtanga, Satyananda Yoga, Contemporary Yoga and Iyengar. She has travelled widely to study with renowned teachers such as Donna Farhi who is her principle yoga teacher and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. More recently Aria has studied with Diane Long and Sophy Hoare, both long-time students of Vanda Scaravelli and with Margaret Hardman.
ARIA’S TEACHING STYLE
Aria has always been intrigued by the inter-relationship of the mind and body and how movement in itself can be a meditative practice. Her classes emphasize this link between movement, breath and mind as a catalyst for healing and personal transformation. She is practical and down to earth in her teaching style and she aims to demystify the traditional tools of yoga such as postures, breathing techniques, chanting and meditation and make them more accessible for her students. All of Aria’s classes are informed by a contemporary understanding of human anatomy and alignment and the principles of Body Mind Centering as a complement to the traditional yogic practices.
She draws on many influences in her yoga practice and her style of teaching is not limited to any one method or style but rather is focused on providing individual students a class that best meets their needs; whether more energetic and physically challenging or more relaxing and restorative. Her classes emphasize the use of enquiry and are informed by the conviction that there is no one correct way of moving, but rather by learning to be more inquisitive and focusing our attention inwards, we become more trusting of our bodies and learn to follow our own internal cues. Aria believes that from this attention, the deepest revelations and healing ensue.
